Demi Lovato<\/a> is celebrating her progress with her mental health journey.<\/span><\/p>\n On Monday, the “Confident” singer attended the\u00a0The Center For Youth Mental Health at New York-Presbyterian’s gala, where she spoke with Dr. Charlie Shaffer about the benefits multiple in-patient treatment centers have had on her life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “I have been to in-patient treatment five times, and it has something that every single time I walked back into a treatment center, I felt defeated,” the actress said at the event via <\/span>People<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0“And I know that experience firsthand, but I think the glimmer of hope was when I started putting in the work and I started to, whether it was work, a program, or talk to my treatment team and build relationships there.”<\/span><\/p>\n Lovato, 31, also spoke about not making her mental health her identity, and managing her medication. For Lovato, she credited finding “joy” as another source of healing.<\/span><\/p>\n “I think the glimmer of hope started to change when I started to find joy and the little things in life,” she said. “And that was something that was so foreign to me before because I was so used to, so used to not seeing hope.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Lovato has been <\/span>candid about her mental health<\/a>, <\/span>disordered eating<\/a> and <\/span>years-long battle with substance abuse<\/a>, that led to <\/span>a near-fatal overdose in 2018<\/a>. Following the overdose, the “Tell Me You Love Me” songstress completed a 90-day stint in rehab.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Last year, <\/span>a source told ET<\/a> that Lovato was making herself a priority and focusing on living a healthy lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n “Demi is doing great. She’s sober and living a very healthy lifestyle. She’s surrounding herself with like-minded people that want her to stay that way and continue to support her positive choices,” the source said.\u00a0“Demi goes to therapy, works out, eats clean, and does things that make her happy. She hikes, writes music, and is very in tune with herself in general.”<\/span><\/p>\n Lovato has a lot more to celebrate as she is planning her next milestone — her wedding — after getting engaged to boyfriend Jordan “Jutes” Lutes. The pair <\/span>announced their engagement<\/a> in December, a little over a year after going public with their romance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “I’m still speechless \ud83e\udd79\ud83e\udd79 last night was the best night of my life and I can\u2019t believe I get to marry the love of my life @jutesmusic,” she wrote. “My love, I’m beyond excited to marry you.. every day I’ve spent with you has been a dream come true and I can’t wait to love and cherish you forever.
