\nThe husband-and-wife team co-wrote the script for the brutal 2022 anti-war movie \u2018All Quiet on the Western Front\u2019, already considered a classic.<\/p>\n
\nLesley launched a crowd-funding drive last year after her husband and creative partner was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n
\nTheir \u2018All Quiet on the Western Front\u2019 adaptation won four Oscars and seven Baftas.<\/p>\n
\nLesley \u2013 who also represented Scotland and Great Britain as a triathlete \u2013 said on social media about Simon\u2019s passing: \u201cMy darling boy passed away yesterday. He was my soul and my light. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe pain is real but I will take this suffering and turn it into beauty in honour of his spirit. Love you all.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nLesley told in February how she had been charting his cancer fight on film, saying: \u201cEven within this journey there\u2019s a shining light by making a documentary. Purpose and meaning.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIn March the writer told the Sunday Times they had been hit with the news about her husband\u2019s diagnosis while celebrating the announcement that their planned next film \u2013 an adaptation of \u2018Man\u2019s Search for Meaning\u2019 about the holocaust, was getting the full funding it needed.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cSometimes it\u2019s sunk in and sometimes it hasn\u2019t. I think what you learn in life, whether it\u2019s from sport or movies or whatever, is that no one has it easy and we are all going to have times where s*** is thrown at us.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou have to just breathe and say: \u2018I can do this\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSimon was having an experimental drug treatment after they raised more than $120,000 on crowd funding.<\/p>\n
\nLesley met her future husband at Loughborough University, near Leicester, and after marrying in Perthshire they moved to California where Simon started teaching and Lesley completed a master\u2019s degree in film and theatre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
