Of her sentencing, Shah released a statement through her rep on the day her sentence started, provided to Life & Style<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI am surrendering to serve a sentence in federal prison today. It is the price I must pay for the bad decisions I made. People got hurt because of my decisions. While incarcerated, I will work to make amends and reconcile with the victims of my crime,\u201d Shah stated. \u201cIn time, I pray that people will judge me for the way I responded to this sentence, rather than only for the decisions that led me to prison.\u201d\u00a0<\/span> Shah<\/a> was sentenced to serve time for 6.5 years\u00a0on January 6, 2023, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud<\/a> in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money-laundering in July 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One month prior to the beginning of her sentence, a source exclusively told<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Life & Style<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>that Jen\u2019s husband,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Sharrieff Shah<\/b><\/a>, was \u201cconstantly by her side\u201d throughout the ordeal because she was a \u201ccomplete mess\u201d after her imprisonment was announced.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cJen\u2019s been a complete wreck<\/a> since the sentencing,\u201d the insider said at the time. \u201cShe doesn\u2019t want to go to prison, and she still hasn\u2019t wrapped her head around it. She can\u2019t stop sobbing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The reality star is currently scheduled to be released on August 20, 2028,\u00a0Life & Style\u00a0<\/em>confirmed in March 2023.<\/p>\n Shah will be serving her time at the Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Bryan, Texas,\u00a0Life & Style\u00a0<\/em>can confirm. Her\u00a0<\/span>lawyers requested in a sentencing memorandum in December 2022 that she serve her time in that specific facility, according to People<\/i><\/a>. The jail is notable for housing several celebrity inmates, including Theranos founder,\u00a0Elizabeth Holmes,\u00a0<\/b>whose jail sentence begins on April 27, 2023, the outlet reported.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The prison currently houses more than 500 female inmates and is labeled as a \u201cminimum security federal prison camp,\u201d per the jail\u2019s official website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As for her daily tasks in prison, Shah will have a \u201c6 a.m. wake-up call\u201d in addition to a \u201crigorous\u201d scheduled, TMZ<\/a> reported on February 18. She will be expected to work, which could either be food service tasks or factory jobs.<\/p>\n The outlet also noted that inmates are not allowed to wear any jewelry that is not a wedding band or a necklace, but these pieces can\u2019t be worth over $100.<\/p>\n Ahead of her prison sentence, Shah sat down with Justin Paperny<\/strong>, the director of White Collar Advice, to discuss her impending time behind bars. Conducting the interview exclusively on her website, Shah admitted to Justin that she was \u201cscared\u201d about her prison sentence.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d be lying if I said I wasn\u2019t nervous,\u201d Shah confessed. \u201cWhat I fear the most is that transition of not being able to hug and kiss my boys and my husband every day and my mom. At the same time, I also feel hopeful and am motivated to do a good job and make the most of my time away.\u201d<\/p>\n Revealing that there is a certain element of reprieve coming with her prison stay, however, the Real Housewives\u00a0<\/em>star attested that she\u2019s looking forward to putting this chapter behind her.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a sense of relief because throughout this entire journey there was so much ambiguity going through it and there was so much unknown,\u201d Shah said. \u201cAnd now for the first time, I\u2019m in a position where I know what is happening tomorrow. \u2026 There\u2019s a sense of relief that I\u2019m going to be able to put the past behind me, and finally start truly healing and forging a new path.\u201d<\/p>\n Shah will need to enter a mental health treatment after prison, Life & Style<\/em> can confirm.<\/p>\n Following her release from prison, Shah will be under supervised release for five years and is expected to complete the program during this time. Her probation officer must approve of the mental health program, while Shah will undergo drug testing 15 days after her release and at least two other drug tests, which will be determined by the court.<\/p>\n According to documents obtained by TMZ<\/em><\/a>, the Bravo personality must continue to take her prescribed medication when she gets out of prison unless her doctor tells her she can stop.<\/p>\n In March 2021, Shah and her assistant,\u00a0Stuart Smith<\/b>, were arrested in Salt Lake City, and were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money-laundering.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n At the time, federal authorities raided Shah\u2019s home and confiscated multiple counterfeit designer purses<\/a> and various jewelry accessories,\u00a0In Touch<\/i>\u00a0can confirm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Despite initially pleading not guilty to the charges, the Bravo personality decided to plead guilty in July 2022. She admitted to Judge\u00a0Sidney Stein<\/b>\u00a0that she \u201cagreed\u201d to \u201ccommit wire fraud\u201d from 2012 to March 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n Shah\u2019s arrest played out during season 2 of\u00a0RHOSLC<\/i>. During the season 3 premiere<\/a> episode in September 2022, the reality star admitted to being fearful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI would be lying if I said I wasn\u2019t scared,\u201d Shah said. \u201cI\u2019m not thinking about myself, I\u2019m thinking about my family. I can\u2019t imagine being away from them. It would literally kill me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Shah was arrested for her involvement in a nationwide telemarketing scheme that\u00a0defrauded hundreds of people across the United States by selling them \u201cbusiness services\u201d that they claimed would benefit the victims\u2019 specific online gigs, In Touch<\/i> confirmed in March 2021. Many of the victims were over the age of 55, and court documents noted that some of Shah and Smith\u2019s targets were elderly people who did not own a computer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Upon pleading guilty, Shah agreed to forfeit $6.5 million of the proceeds from the conspiracy and $9.5 million in restitution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The severity of Shah\u2019s crime played a significant role in how much time she was sentenced to serve. Although she requested a three-year reduced sentencing, claiming that her \u201cterrible business decisions\u201d were due to \u201cpersonal painful experiences,\u201d the United States government recommended that she be sentenced to 10 years behind bars, according to court documents obtained by\u00a0In Touch<\/i>\u00a0on December 23, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMany of those people suffered significant financial hardship and damage,\u201d the documents read. \u201cAt the defendant\u2019s direction, victims were defrauded over and over again until they had nothing left.
