Kim Kardashian<\/strong><\/a> usually doesn\u2019t bring up O.J. Simpson<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 unless it has to do with jury duty.<\/p>\n

During a sneak peek at next week\u2019s episode of The Kardashians<\/em><\/a>, Kim, 43, jokingly wonders how to get out of doing her civic responsibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my birthday week and I have been called to jury duty,\u201d she tells the cameras. \u201cI feel like there\u2019s some kind of O.J. connection that will get me out of jury duty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kim quickly clarifies that she wasn\u2019t serious, adding, \u201cI\u2019m just kidding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMembers of the Kardashian family have made rare comments about O.J. Simpson, who was represented by the late Robert Kardashian in court during his infamous trial. After the former NFL player was arrested in connection to the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, in 1994, he enlisted Kardashian to become part of his legal [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite Kim\u2019s surprising comment, she hasn\u2019t spoken about her history with O.J. often. The late athlete made headlines when he was arrested<\/a> and subsequently charged in 1994 with the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson<\/strong> and Ron Goldman<\/strong>. One of the attorneys on O.J\u2019s legal team was Kim\u2019s father, the late Robert Kardashian<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Robert, who was married to Kris Jenner<\/strong> from 1978 to 1991, shared four kids with her: Kourtney Kardashian, <\/strong>Kim, Khlo\u00e9 Kardashian <\/strong>and Rob Kardashian<\/strong>. After their divorce, Kris, 63, found love with Caitlyn Jenner<\/strong>, and they were together until 2013. (Robert died at age 59 in 2003 after a battle with esophageal cancer.)<\/p>\n

In one of the most talked-about verdicts of all time<\/a>, O.J. was famously acquitted of the murders in 1995, but he was found liable for Ron and Nicole\u2019s deaths in a civil trial three years later. The Kardashians have made rare comments over the years<\/a> about how seeing their parents on different sides of the trial affected them.<\/p>\n

\u201cO.J. was always our Uncle O.J., Nicole was my Auntie Nicole,\u201d Khlo\u00e9, 39, told E! True Hollywood Story<\/em> in 2009. \u201cYou don\u2019t really know what to believe or how to perceive it. \u2026 It\u2019s sad to see your parents go through so much pain for trying to be true friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tO.J. Simpson originally rose to fame as a football standout. After winning the 1968 Heisman Trophy at the University of Southern California, he was selected by the Buffalo Bills as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1969 draft. Simpson retired from the NFL in 1979 after playing 11 seasons, pivoting his career to take [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kim, meanwhile, said she sided with her father because she trusted him so much. \u201cI definitely took my dad\u2019s side,\u201d she told Rolling Stone in July 2015. \u201cWe just always thought my dad was the smartest person in the world, and he really believed in his friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Kim, the situation \u201ctore\u201d her family apart<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mom was extremely vocal on her feelings \u2014 she believed that her friend was murdered by him and that was really traumatizing for her,\u201d she told David Letterman<\/strong> in October 2020. \u201cAnd then we\u2019d go to my dad\u2019s house and it was a whole other situation there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kim didn\u2019t want to comment on the case as she got older because of O.J. and Nicole\u2019s kids: Sydney and Justin<\/a>. \u201cI just respect his children, so if I were to say something that would hurt someone\u2019s feelings publicly \u2014 unless they\u2019re coming for me and I have to defend myself or a family member \u2014 then I\u2019m aware,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Despite largely remaining tight-lipped on the subject, Kim poked fun at her history with O.J. while hosting Saturday Night Live<\/em> in 2021, joking, \u201cIt\u2019s because of [my father] that I met my first Black person. Want to take a stab in the dark at who it was? I know it\u2019s sort of weird to remember the first Black person you met, but O.J. does leave a mark or several, or none at all. I still don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

O.J. died at age 76 earlier this year<\/a> following a private cancer battle. \u201cOn April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren,\u201d read a statement shared via X in April. \u201cDuring this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The news came two months after it was reported that O.J. was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.<\/a> O.J. never publicly confirmed his diagnosis. A source has since exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> that the Kardashians kept their distance from O.J. before his passing.<\/a><\/p>\n
