“Faster than a speeding bullet” usually describes one of Superman’s powers, but it’s also an accurate description of just how quickly his super-powered cousin, Supergirl, is leaping — sorry, flying — from theaters to streaming this fall.

Released on June 26, Supergirl didn’t impress audiences and critics like last summer’s Superman did, grossing only $126 million worldwide on a reported $175 million budget.

It’s no surprise then that the comic book film, starring Milly Alcock as the titular heroine and Jason Momoa as her space pirate ally Lobo, is about to land on streaming after less than three months in theaters.

Watch With Us has all the details on when Supergirl will be available to stream, where you can watch it, whether it’s worth watching, and more.

    When Is ‘Supergirl’ Streaming?

Warner Bros. just announced that Supergirl will stream on Thursday, September 10. The 2026 film will debut on linear HBO channels two days later on Saturday, September 12, at 8:00 pm ET.

    Where Is ‘Supergirl’ Streaming?

Like all WB and DC films, Supergirl will stream exclusively on HBO Max for 2026 and a good chunk of 2027.

    What Is ‘Supergirl’ About?

Here’s DC’s official synopsis of the film:

“In its inaugural flight into the new DC Cinematic Universe, Supergirl reveals the origin of the interplanetary nomad Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, cousin of Kal-El, better known as Superman. Headstrong, worldly-wise, and often reckless, Supergirl exudes a brand of heroism all her own — truthful, relatable, and always on her own terms. But when an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion. Together they undertake an epic, interstellar journey, struggling to balance one’s need for vengeance with the pursuit of justice — and to save the life of Kara’s best friend, her dog Krypto. Ultimately, Supergirl will prove that doing good can be tough … and it doesn’t always have to be nice.”

In other words, it’s essentially Mad Max: Fury Road in outer space, with a dash of Lone Wolf and Cub thrown in.

Supergirl is written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie. DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn produced the film, which is based on characters from DC. Supergirl is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film is executive produced by Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther. The film is inspired by the comic book Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, an eight-issue miniseries by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely.

    Is ‘Supergirl’ Worth Watching?

Yes and no. There’s a reason why Supergirl has a 53 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score — it’s not good enough to be satisfying and not bad enough to be memorable. It’s just … there. Some aspects, like Alcock’s heroine and Momoa’s anti-hero, are enjoyable, and the aliens Kara encounters are creative, but the film’s main plot feels tired, and its grungy visuals are depressing to look at. Schoenaerts’ villain is utterly generic, and the film’s outcome is never in doubt.

2025 was a surprisingly mixed year for movies. While the box office increased slightly from 2024’s total, several high-profile movies, like Marvel’s Thunderbolts and Paramount’s The Running Man, underperformed. There’s a reason for that — they weren’t as good as many people, including myself, expected them to be. 2026 promises to be different. Project Hail […]

Supergirl isn’t as bad as everyone made it out to be this past summer, but it’s less enjoyable than the 1984 version, which had Faye Dunaway chew plenty of scenery as the campy villainess, Selena. The 2026 version doesn’t have any of that, and it suffers as a result.
