Supriya Ganesh’s departure from The Pitt has sent ripples across the internet.

Ganesh, who played Dr. Samira Mohan on the HBO Max medical drama, was written off the series ahead of season 3 in a decision producers described as “story-driven.” In the season 2 finale, Mohan had a conversation with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) before he left on his spirit quest. Mohan’s future with Pittsburgh Trauma Center was undetermined and possibly won’t be addressed until the show returns for season 3.

Ganesh’s exit has since sparked a wave of backlash from devoted viewers. Scroll down to see what Ganesh has said about exiting the show:

Supriya Ganesh Thinks Her ‘The Pitt’ Character Might Be Paired With Dr. Al-Hashimi

Ganesh has thoughts about where Mohan might land, suggesting that the character be paired with Sepideh Moafi‘s Dr. Al-Hashimi. “I hope [Samira] goes somewhere where she has an attending that thinks she’s fit to be in the ER,” Ganesh told JoySauce in April 2026. “Maybe if Dr. Al-Hashimi takes over. It’s been really interesting thinking about how different her experience of the ER might have been if she had a different attending.”

Where Supriya Ganesh Thinks ‘The Pitt’ Character Might Land

After Mohan’s exit, Ganesh opened up about where the character might go. “What I think she’s really trying to do is stay in Pittsburgh. I think she’s really trying to figure out a way to stay in the hospital because there’s nothing left for her in Jersey,” she told TV Insider in April 2026. “Her mom really was her only tether there, and it is her realizing she has a few more tethers here than she does back home.”

Ganesh continued: “I think she is trying to figure out what she can do to feel like she has community. But I also think for me, I wish there was this sense of, ‘I wish you could just take a break. I really want you to take a break. I think you’re so burnt out. I think you’re reaching this point of exhaustion emotionally, physically, all of those things. And you’ve really gone through one of the worst days of your life.’ I almost want her to stop thinking about all of those things and focus on something else.”

Supriya Ganesh Calls Fan Reaction to ‘The Pitt’ Exit ‘Surreal’

While reflecting on leaving The Pitt, Ganesh told Variety in an interview published in May 2026, “I tried to take a step away, because it’s just been so surreal. The day that news broke, I saw my name was trending on Twitter, and I was like, ‘Gotta put the phone down and go outside.’ So, I haven’t really been keeping track of it, to be honest, but I’ve been getting such sweet, lovely messages from people, and I’ve honestly just been surprised at how much people love the character and saw so much of themselves in her, and that’s what I’m going to miss.”

Ganesh teased that there are a “couple of things in the pipeline” but couldn’t confirm any future projects just yet.

The Pitt is currently streaming on HBO Max.
