Rising pop star Eli (“Glitter” and, more recently, featured on Zara Larsson’s Girls Trip deluxe remix of “Crush”) penned an open letter to Taylor Swift on social media, accusing the singer of failing to properly credit her as a songwriter on a recent collaboration. In a previous series of Instagram Stories — which have since been archived across various subreddits and forums — Eli referred to Taylor as a “fame-fucking billionaire” and “the Jeff Bezos of the music industry,” while also declaring that “Swifties are so similar to MAGA” and writing: “Give Olivia Rodrigo her publishing back and then we’ll talk!”
According to Eli, she contributed lyrics and melody ideas to a Taylor song that were ultimately used in the final version without proper acknowledgment or compensation.
Taylor’s team has yet to respond. While some Swifties have attacked Eli with predictable transphobic rhetoric, many others have come to her defense, praising her as one of the first artists willing to publicly criticize Taylor Swift so directly. Others still have accused Eli of trying to gain traction and go viral.
ONTD, have you streamed “Glitter” by Eli for clear skin yet today?
