Chet Hanks has moved to a trailer park
The 35-year-old actor-and-musician – who is the son of Hollywood legend Tom Hanks and his actress wife Rita Wilson – recently moved to Nashville to pursue a country music career but he was reluctant to buy a new apartment after just splashing out on property in Los Angeles and the idea of temporary accommodation didn’t appeal, so he’s based himself in a luxurious trailer instead.
He explained on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: “I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in LA and I furnished it.
“I didn’t want to do that again and I didn’t want to furnish it. So I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels and that gets really old because I just like having my own space.”
The Running Point star’s decision was inspired by a recent trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea in California.
He said: “I stayed in an Airstream trailer and I really loved it. I was like, ‘Man, I want one of these…’ So I did. I got a trailer.”
And although Chet didn’t get an Airstresm because he is “not there yet”, he is “really happy” with the Jayco Eagle he currently calls home.
He said: “[It has] everything I need. I got my kitchen. I got, you know, a walk-in shower. That’s a big deal with trailers, if it’s a walk-in shower, because sometimes they combine the toilet and shower. It’s called a wet bath.”
Chet stressed there is nothing “sketchy” about the trailer park and he’s settle din a community of “great” older people.
He said: “I’m probably, like, the youngest person in the trailer park by like 30 or 40 years.
“It’s not what you think, you know? You think, oh, you’re gonna live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous. It’s all just, like retirees, you know? Great people.”
But the Something Out West band member hasn’t taken advantage of being so close to nature as much as he could have.
He said: “I do have a campfire outside of it. I have a fire pit and I have used it.
“But most of the time, I just do exactly what I do at home, which is just stay inside and lay in bed and watch Netflix and things like that.”
