Antonio Banderas is sharing what it has been like to leave Hollywood.

The 65-year-old actor left Hollywood behind to return to his home town Málaga, Spain in 2017 after a near-fatal heart attack.

“Mine was a really serious warning. It changed the way I look at life,” he shared during a new interview with The Times.

Not only did he return home, but he quit smoking, sold his private jet, and bought his not-for-profit theatre Teatro del Soho, which he describes as his great passion.

Antonio said, “Faced with death, it made me look back and realize that I am, in fact, a theatre actor.”

“I have never been so happy,” The Mask of Zorro star added.

While he doesn’t live in the States anymore, Antonio is still a working actor, having starred in recent hits like Babygirl, Paddington in Peru, and even Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

He previously talked about opening his theater company in 2019, just a few years after his heart attack. It also includes a school for 600 students.

“I came [to] the conclusion that I had to do the things that I want to do, that I don’t want to die thinking, ‘I should have done that or I should have said that.’ Money in the bank became kind of a very Machiavellian intellectual thing,” he revealed at the time.
