Andrew Garfield is revealing his thoughts on the Harry Potter movies after watching the franchise for the first time.
The 42-year-old actor shared that he only checked out the franchise recently and praised Daniel Radcliffe as being “really good” as the titular character Harry Potter.
However, he also acknowledges that watching the films and discussing them is “controversial” because of J.K. Rowling‘s prominent anti-trans views.

“I know it’s controversial and we shouldn’t be putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislation right now through she that shall remain nameless,” he said during his latest interview with HitsRadio, referring to the author.
He continued, “But the soul and spirit, the essence of the themes of those films and the kids and the artisans and the craft people.”
Andrew basically goes on to say that we can’t completely dismiss the artistry and work that went into making the movies because of Rowling.
“I’m working with a wonderful makeup artist, Claire, who worked on the creatures, you can’t throw the baby out of the bathwater. There are so many beautiful artists that worked on those films. I have a newfound appreciation for all of the artists, and Daniel is great,” he shared.
John Lithgow, who plays Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO television series, recently said he almost quit the show over the Rowling backlash.
