Tiger Woods has been arrested.
If you didn’t see the news, on Friday afternoon (March 27), it was revealed that the 50-year-old golf pro was involved in a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island in Florida.
In a press conference shortly after the crash, authorities announced that Tiger was taken into police custody and charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusing to submit to a test, according to Golfweek.
Keep reading to find out more…According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a phone call just before 2pm local time about the rollover crash involving two vehicles on a small two-lane road.
The crash occurred as the driver of a truck, which was pulling a trailer, slowed down to turn into a driveway. The truck driver reported that Tiger‘s Land Rover was driving at a high speed and attempted to overtake the vehicle, but swerved to avoid a collision and clipped the trailer, triggering the rollover.
“As he was trying to move to the side, the Land Rover overtook him at the last minute, swerved to avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the trailer,” Martin County Sheriff John M. Budensiek said at the press conference. “The vehicle then listed to the side and rolled onto the driver’s door north past the truck that had just avoided the crash.”
Officials said that Tiger crawled out through the window of his Land Rover after the crash. Both drivers were not injured.
After arriving on the scene, authorities determined that Tiger was impaired at the time of the incident and was subsequently arrested.
“Mr. Woods did not appear to be injured at all, and the other individual was not injured,” Sheriff Budensiek said, noting that Tiger was “lethargic on scene because of what he was intoxicated on.”
He also said that Tiger was “alone in the car” at the time of the accident, said he was “not sure” if he was wearing a seat belt.
Authorities said Tiger‘s impairment was not related to alcohol as he passed a breathalyzer at the jail, but refused to provide a urine sample.
The investigation remains ongoing and Tiger will remain behind bars until at least 11pm ET on Friday.
Back in February 2021, Tiger suffered multiple leg injuries after being involved in a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision in California. He required surgery on his leg and ankle. It was later revealed that Tiger was actually driving at 83 MPH in a 45 MPH zone at the time of the crash.
