Donald Trump continues to insist that Iran is lying about engaging in talks to end the war he started in the Middle East. Now, the president is threatening to escalate things further.

Early Thursday morning (March 26), the 79-year-old Republican took to Truth Social to slam the alleged Iranian negotiators that he says the United States is speaking to, calling them “very different and ‘strange.’ ”

Trump continued, alleging that Iranian leaders were “‘begging’ us to make a deal,” adding that it’s what they “should be doing since they have been militarily obliterated, with zero chance of a comeback.”

“And yet they publicly state that they are only ‘looking at our proposal.’ WRONG!!!” he raged. “They better get serious soon, before it is too late, because once that happens, there is NO TURNING BACK, and it won’t be pretty!”

His latest verbal attack on the country’s leaders comes just a few days after Trump announced a temporary pause on attacks he threatened level against Iran’s power infrastructure.

At the time, he said that Iran had been engaged in “very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”

He further described the conversations as being “in depth, detailed and constructive.”

However, Iran has insisted that these talks are not taking place. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi appeared on state TV this week to say that the government “[does] not plan on any negotiations,” per the Associated Press.

While attending a fundraiser on Wednesday (March 25), Trump again insisted that the negotiations are happening. This time he proposed a reason that the negotiators are allegedly lying, saying, “They are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly, but they’re afraid to say it because they figure they’ll be killed by their own people,” per AP.

“They’re also afraid they’ll be killed by us,” he said.

Trump launched the war on February 28 and has since issued confusing and competing claims about when he intends to end it.
