A GoFundMe page claiming to support NHL reporter Jessi Pierce’s family following the sudden deaths of her and her three kids has raised over $65,000.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of Jessi Hinrichs (Pierce), her three children, and their family dog,” the fundraiser reads. “Jessi had a larger-than-life personality and an even bigger heart. She was devoted to her family, going above and beyond to create many moments of joy and everlasting memories.”
News broke on Sunday, March 22, that Pierce had died in a Minnesota house fire at age 37. Her three children and their family dog also died. The family is survived by Pierce’s husband, Mike Hinrichs, whom the GoFundMe page is said to be raising money for.
“The children, each with their own unique personalities, shared Jessi’s zest for life and love for adventure. They leave behind Mike, husband to Jessi and loving father of their children, who is now experiencing an unimaginably difficult time,” the fundraiser’s description continues. “We are raising funds to cover funeral expenses and to provide financial support for the family during this period of grief. Any contribution is appreciated.”
The GoFundMe page was set up by someone named Diana Johnson-Salvador. However, their connection to Pierce and her family is currently unknown.
The NHL confirmed Pierce’s death in a statement on Sunday.
“The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children,” the statement read. “Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly.”
The fire that killed Pierce and her family took place on Saturday, March 22. Minnesota firefighters responded to a residential structure fire at around 5:25 a.m. that morning, White Bear Lake Fire Department Fire Chief Greg Peterson confirmed.
“Neighbors that made the 911 call reported seeing fire coming through the roof of the house and stated there were likely people inside of the house,” a statement shared via Facebook read. “Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved structure fire and immediately began fire suppression efforts. Crews were then able to locate an adult, three children and a dog inside of the house. Unfortunately, all were deceased.”
The White Bear Lake Fire Department wrote that their “hearts ache for those involved in this tragedy,” the statement continued, calling it “a very difficult and sad day for our community” in the social media caption.
“We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time,” the fire department concluded.
