Did you know that Brian Austin Green‘s middle name is not actually Austin?

The 52-year-old actor has revealed that “Austin” came from a need to differentiate himself from another actor before he could join the Screen Actors Guild, as “Brian Green” belonged to a different member.

“My mom had a whole name planned for me when she was pregnant and I had really broad shoulders as a baby, so she had a real hard time in labor. And my dad—who smoked a lot of pot at this point in life—while my mom was in the middle of labor, he came forward, and he was like, ‘Can we name him Brian?’” Brian revealed in the Monday (March 16) episode of the Pod Meets World podcast.

He says his mom was fine with naming him “whatever the f–k” his dad wanted, “Just get him out of me,” she said.

Brian continued, “That was literally the only name he came up with. He came up with no middle name, no anything. So, it was just Brian Green.”

But when he wanted to become part of SAG to further his acting career, he learned there was another person named Brian Green already in the union, so he had to add a middle name.

“I don’t think you can be in the union with the same name as somebody else. You have to have some sort of thing that differentiates so they can keep track of checks when they come in. They can monitor, they can do all the stuff that they, as a union, do,” he clarified.

Brian Green is not a very easy name to come up with a middle name for, where the whole thing flows very well,” the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum shared. “We almost named me Brian Peter Green after my mom’s dad, but then my initials would have been P, so it was Brian P. Green, and they’re like, that’s probably not a good start.”

He joked that the name could “make or break a career,” and says they eventually went through a map and settled on “Austin.”

As for the other SAG member named Brian Green, the Desperate Housewives star says he never met him, but did previously hold some resentment toward him.

“I wished [for] his demise when I was younger, when I didn’t realize what all that entailed and I didn’t realize that was a terrible thing to wish upon anybody,” he added.

Earlier this year, Brian opened up about his secret romance with one of the stars of Martin.
