Trixie and Katya watch the Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model Netflix documentary on their latest episode of Still Watching Netflix. I know a few of you were wondering if they would, so I decided I would do a post! I truly don’t think they were prepared because in the beginning they are both laughing and having fun, but their tone pivots entirely, and at one point Katya even cries. Don’t get put off at the beginning because they are extremely scathing later.
Highlights:
💅 Excited they are in the documentary
💅 Mention how amazing it was to have queer representation on mainstream television
💅 Mention Janice “brings the crazy” and compare it to Drag Race, where at least they are being judged on what they make, not their bodies. Call her judgements non-constructive
💅 Katya remembers she was on Top Model in a photo with Natasha
💅 Their tone changes completely after the Shandi reveal, and they are incredibly serious about how fucked up it was – called Drag Race a ‘mental health’ retreat compared to ANTM
💅 Talk about how amazing Isis is, and how uncomfortable it was to watch them not handle transgender issues with sensitivity
💅 Called Tyra the worst talk show host of all time
💅 Were disgusted by the dental procedures – called it the manipulation it was. “Tyra is a terrorist”
💅 Horrified by the photoshoots that focused on models’ insecurities and trauma, and race-swapping
💅 Had assumed that they were going to laugh at how silly ANTM was, and are horrified by the experiences of the models – call out production several times for not helping
💅 Are repeatedly frustrated by the violence towards women
💅 “I’d rather have RuPaul yell at me than Tyra” about the ‘we were all rooting for you’ moment. Horrified by it
💅 Called her a monster for not addressing the Jay Manuel issue and saying she would call him instead
💅 “I hate this show” Katya actually cries for the girls, specifically Shandi.
💅 They both cry again finding out about Miss J, and are loving towards each other
💅 “I need to have a sit down meeting for the people who made the trailer for this, because tonally…” They are very upset about the fact that this doco was framed as silly, but the experiences of the models they showed were awful
💅 Horrified by the idea of ANTM cycle 25 – correctly called what Tyra does ‘gaslighting’, but love Dani’s final shut-down of it
