One good thing that’s come out of this whole Timothee controversy? Increased opera ticket sales. Seattle Opera told NPR’s Marketplace that it made $28,800 last weekend from people who used its TIMOTHEE discount code. The discount code was for 14%, a reference to Chalamet’s comment that he just lost 14 cents in viewership.
“We sold a total of 203 tickets with that discount code over the weekend, bringing in 61% more in sales than we estimate we would have seen without it,” according to the Seattle Opera.
Hawai’i Opera Theatre, which also used a TIMOTHEE discount code, made $7,800. Normally, the Hawai’i Opera Theatre makes between $250 and $1,200 over the weekend.
ONTD, have you bought any opera tickets?
