Kate Winslet is taking on the female lead in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum!
Andy Serkis, who has starred in past LOTR films, will be directing this movie, and apparently, he and Peter Jackson had been trying to get Kate on board for “most of last year,” Deadline reports. The film shoots from May through October in New Zealand.
The film will also see the return of past stars Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Andy himself as Gollum.
The movie “follows Aragorn’s perilous quest to capture Gollum before the creature can reveal the Ring’s location to Sauron.”
As of right now, it will be released on December 17, 2027.
It’s unclear what role Kate will portray at this time. Elijah previously spoke out about returning for the new film.
