Choosing the right luggage is key if you’re gearing up for your next adventure—whether sealing deals on a business trip or soaking in the pleasures of a well-deserved vacation. Samsonite and Coolife are vastly different luggage brands, and each offers a unique blend of advantages.

In my travels, I’ve tested dozens of suitcases. I’ve seen broken spinner wheels, ripped zippers, and everything in between. I tested a total of 17 COOLIFE and Samsonite suitcases to see where each excels.

Samsonite is tried and true, with a century-long history of building high-quality luggage. You’ll find their bags in pretty much every store that sells luggage.

COOLIFE, on the other hand, is relatively new and unknown. This brand was started by the owners of a luggage factory in Asia, and they specialize in selling sleek, functional suitcases at a budget-friendly price.

My aim is to walk you through the details of each brand’s offerings so that you can make an informed decision on the best luggage brand that resonates with your personal style, meets your needs, and aligns with your budget.

    Materials & Quality

    Samsonite Materials and Quality

COOLIFE and Samsonite scored very similarly for Build Quality in our testing, but the whole story is more complicated than that.

All COOLIFE luggage is very similar—they mainly just have a few different patterns and features between different models. For a budget brand, COOLIFE uses surprisingly good materials and components across the board. Their hardshells are made of a blend of polycarbonate and ABS, and the zippers are YKK (which are the best in the business).

At this price point, I’m very surprised (and happy) to see YKK zippers and polycarbonate (even if it’s blended with ABS). Samsonite’s budget-friendly models can’t really compete. Even though they cost more, Samsonite’s lower-end suitcases use cheaper materials (like 100% ABS) and often don’t have YKK zippers.

If you’re looking for affordable luggage that is still good quality, I recommend choosing COOLIFE.

If you want the absolute best durability, though, you’ll want to look at Samsonite’s higher-end suitcases like the Framelock Carry-On. This hardside carry-on is made with a 100% polycarbonate shell, and instead of a main zipper, it has a metal locking latch, which is sturdier and less likely to jam or break.

The best Samsonite luggage is much, much better than COOLIFE’s cases, but it will also cost significantly more.

In the end, both brands have their place. If you’re an occasional traveler on a budget, COOLIFE luggage is more than durable enough, and is even better than buying a cheaper Samsonite case. If you’re a frequent flyer looking for long-lasting luggage that can take a beating, a more expensive Samsonite bag might be worth the investment. It all depends on your travel style and budget!

    Design & Features

    COOLIFE Design Features

In terms of style and exterior design, COOLIFE and Samsonite suitcases are quite similar. Both have hardside suitcases with sleek, simple exteriors or more complex geometric patterns. Both have softside suitcases that are more professional and conservative looking.

The main differences come when you open the suitcases up.

Inside, COOLIFE suitcases are simple but practical. There are zippered dividers, a few pockets, and compression straps. I highly recommend using packing cubes if you like to keep things organized. You get built-in TSA locks, but that’s the extent of the fancy features.

The COOLIFE Carry-On With Pocket has an external zippered pocket with a padded laptop sleeve and a few smaller compartments for things like your wallet, keys, passport, etc. that you want to keep within easy reach. This specific bag does cost more than COOLIFE’s standard carry-ons, but it’s honestly a better design for traveling with a laptop than most Samsonite models.

Samsonite gives you more options when it comes to features and organization.

The Samsonite Freeform is a fairly simple, stripped-back model. It’s got a simple hardshell construction, a zippered divider, two internal pockets, and a set of compression straps. If all you need is a basic suitcase, this will get the job done without any unnecessary frills.

On the other hand, if you’d like more organization and features, the Silhouette was originally designed as the most advanced luggage available. The RightHeight handle system adjusts in 1-inch increments. The spinner wheels are the smoothest and most durable that Samsonite uses. The inside has pockets galore, including a padded laptop sleeve, removable packing cube, removable toiletry pouch, laundry bag, and zippered mesh compartments for smaller items.

With Samsonite, your budget is the only limit. You can get as many or as few features as you want, and it’s worth exploring their whole product range to find the right one for you.

    Warranty and Buying Experience

    COOLIFE Warranty

COOLIFE’s warranty is pretty decent for the price. They cover manufacturing defects for 2 years. It’s not too bad, especially compared to other budget brands, but be aware that it won’t cover airline damage or general wear and tear. You also have to pay shipping costs for returns and replacements on your own dime.

Samsonite has a much more confidence-inspiring warranty. Most of their bags come with a 10 year warranty, and they have a good reputation for repairing or replacing luggage without any hassle. Plus, they’ve got repair centers in most major cities, so you’re not shipping your bag to the moon and back. Samsonite will even ship you replacement parts to do simple repairs on your own.

When it comes to buying, COOLIFE is mostly an online game. Their Amazon store will be the easiest way to purchase a COOLIFE suitcase for most people. The downside? There’s no way to give the bag a test run before you buy. But hey, that’s online shopping for you.

Samsonite gives you more options. You can purchase directly from their website, but their bags are also available in pretty much any store that sells luggage.

    Brand Impact and Sustainability

    Samsonite Brand Overview

If sustainability and responsible purchasing are important to you, Samsonite is the better choice.

Most Samsonite luggage models use at least some recycled materials, and some models (like the Essens Carry-On) have a hard-shell that’s made from at least 70% recycled plastic. Recycled hardshell luggage isn’t very common yet, so it’s awesome to see that from Samsonite.

Samsonite also started what they call “Our Responsible Journey,” which is a combination of strategies to create more sustainable products, reduce emissions, and benefit the communities they work with. This includes supporting charities, actively fostering workplace diversity, using more recycled materials, and transitioning to renewable energy.

To be clear, Samsonite still has a long way to go, and I think they overhype their sustainability efforts a little bit (greenwashing is a thing!). These are definitely some important steps in the right direction though.

COOLIFE on the other hand has no sustainability or community initiatives whatsoever. They don’t use recycled materials and they don’t donate to charities.

Honestly, if buying sustainable products from companies that are dedicated to reducing their impact is your top priority, I wouldn’t recommend either of these brands. Of the dozens of luggage brand’s we’ve tested, Paravel scored highest for Brand Impact. They have several 3rd-party certifications including Climate Neutral, Gold Standard carbon-neutral shipping, OEKO-Tex Standard 100, and Global Recycled Standard. The entire brand is based on selling sustainable products.

Paravel is more expensive than either COOLIFE or Samsonite, but it’s the best choice for sustainability.

    Final Thoughts

While a suitcase for either Samsonite or COOLIFE will serve you well, I think they’re best suited for very different travelers who have very different priorities.

If you are on a very tight budget and just want to get the best bang for your buck, go with COOLIFE. Their suitcases are simple, stylish, and reliable, especially for what you pay. In our testing, COOLIFE is the highest-scoring brand overall that also scores a 10/10 for price-to performance.

Nothing else we’ve tested comes close to being as high-quality and well-designed at such a low price point. Even compared to Samsonite’s budget-end models, COOLIFE is better, especially if you’re looking for cheap luggage sets.

But, of course, there is some truth to the saying that you get what you pay for. A COOLIFE suitcase should last you a long time, but it probably isn’t a “Buy It for Life” product. COOLIFE luggage is also pretty basic and doesn’t come with any high-end features.

If you’re willing to invest a bit more in a suitcase that is more functional, will last longer, and uses recycled materials, I think Samsonite’s higher-end models are worth the price difference. The True Frame, Outline Pro, and Armage II are a few Samsonite suitcases that are definitely better than anything from COOLIFE.

Ultimately, the choice between COOLIFE and Samsonite depends on your budget and how you’ll be using your luggage. Do you only take one or two vacation trips a year? COOLIFE will be good enough. Are you a frequent business traveler or digital nomad? You’ll likely be better off with Samsonite.
