Twitter/X is currently having a collective meltdown due to new footage of Chappell Roan confronting paparazzi trying to harass her on her way to dinner in Paris.
“Disregarded as a human, this is what it’s like,” she says in the video, filming the paps with her phone as they film her. “So I’m just trying to go to dinner, and I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me.” She also pointedly ignores a man trying to get her to sign a photo, which many have correctly labeled as a reseller/autograph hound, not an actual fan (though others on social media have expressed sympathy for him and called him a “genuine fan” who just wanted an autograph).
As with most things Chappell does, the video has the internet in a divided frenzy over the footage, with many people calling her miserable, someone who “never smiles,” is ungrateful, mean, annoying, rude, undeserving of her fame, etc. Others are defending her, saying the paparazzi are and have been intrusive and creepy, and that this generation would’ve never survived Björk beating up a reporter in Bangkok in 1996, etc.
