Pinocchio is getting a terrifying new interpretation.
Pinocchio Unstrung is described as “a dark coming-of-age reimagining of Pinocchio.”
Here’s a synopsis: “This unsettling tale follows the iconic puppet’s disturbing journey toward becoming real.”

The film is written and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, and stars Richard Brake as Geppetto, Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund as Cricket, and Cameron Bell as James.
The gory trailer features the doll going out of his way to collect body parts to become “a real boy.”
ITN Distribution is overseeing the release, with a theatrical date currently being scheduled worldwide, per Variety.
“We built Pinocchio as a fully practical animatronic because I wanted him to feel real,” the director told Variety. “This is a twisted coming-of-age story told from the puppet’s perspective: a creation struggling for autonomy while being manipulated by the sinister forces around him, from Robert Englund’s sinister ‘Jiminy Cricket’ to Richard Brake’s obsessive Geppetto.”
