Speaking out regarding the growing tension between Department of Homeland Security agents and citizens of Minneapolis since the shootings, Melania called for “unity.”

“We need to unify. I’m calling for unity. I know my husband, the president, had a great call yesterday with the governor [Tim Walz] and the mayor [Jacob Frey]. And they’re working together to make it peaceful and without riots,” she said.

Continuing, the first lady added, “I’m against the violence. So please if you protest, protest in peace. And we need to unify in these times.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Melania opened up about how she influences the president, explaining that she does speak to him about important topics.

“I give him my advice, and I tell him what I think. Sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn’t. But I am here to support him. I think it is very important to have open communication,” she explained.

Regarding her role in the White House, she said, “I’m very mission oriented. I want to impact Americans’ lives, and, of course, I am honored to carry on the duties of first lady, traditional duties.”

If you missed it, the president recently revealed one of his behaviors that Melania had dubbed “so unpresidential.”
