The Landman cast has often spoken about their experiences working with Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan on his new hit series.

Sheridan’s work started in front of the camera before he transitioned to writing credits on Sicario, Hell or High Water and Wind River. From there, Sheridan created Yellowstone, which broke records at Paramount Network. The hit series, which aired from 2018 to 2024, expanded the universe with spinoffs such as 1883 and 1923 as well as the upcoming series The Dutton Ranch, The Madison and Marshals.

Outside of the Yellowstone universe, Sheridan created original shows Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Tulsa King and Landman. Inspired by the “Boomtown” podcast series, Landman is focused on the West Texas oil industry with a specific focus on crisis executive Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) and his family.

“We knew we were making something really special. We thought people would like it. But the response has been so much beyond what we thought,” Thornton told The Los Angeles Times in May 2025. “Traditionally, Taylor’s stuff is more of a middle-of-the-country kind of thing. But with this, it’s the middle of the country, the coasts, and other countries, too. We’re humbled by that. When people come up and want to talk about it, it means a lot.”

“Taylor has actually been very loose with me. There’s not a lot of improvisation on his stuff,” Thornton told Awards Radar in May 2025. “Taylor said, ‘Look, you’re a writer, you’re a director. You get this stuff. We’re partners in this.’ So, every now and then, I’ll throw something in there, and if he likes it, he keeps it. But his writing is so good that I rarely do anything outside of it.”

Later that year, Thornton told USA Today that he signed on to Landman for “four or five years” with plans to stay on the show “for as long as” Sheridan will have him.

After getting increased screen time in season 2, Moore praised Sheridan’s ability to write women — despite the offscreen criticism.

“But that’s what’s juicy about the fact that they’re so nuanced. They aren’t only one thing,” she said during a joint interview with Michelle Randolph for Interview Magazine in January 2026. “Like you, I also feel like [Cami is] evolving. We just started to get to know her, and we only know her as this grieving widow who’s been thrust into having to rescue a potentially dying company. But we don’t really know everything yet of who she is. And that’s one of the brilliant things about Taylor’s writing — it always takes these unexpected turns. It’s like he’s building a house.”

While speaking exclusively to Us in January 2026, Lofland teased that the Landman cast usually gets their scripts one week before filming, saying, “It’s really script by script. Taylor and I haven’t even really had that many conversations. I just get them and go, ‘OK, I guess we’re going this direction now.’”

He continued: “Taylor — in his writing — it doesn’t take a lot. It’s there, it’s on the page. I keep saying, he makes our job incredibly easy. All we have to do is say the words because the emotion is already there.”

    Sam Elliott

    Landman

Landman offered Elliott a chance to work with Sheridan again after 1883.

“I want to do justice to Taylor’s work,” Elliott told Gold Derby in November 2025. “I challenge myself to figure out what he wants out of me, and I want to do justice to the fact that he brought me onto this show. He’s the ultimate macho man and he transforms all that in a very pleasing way to the screen. He’s just so gifted and to have an opportunity to work with him again is pretty special.”

    Paulina Chavez

    Landman

“Taylor Sheridan was always a phone call away if I ever had any questions about a certain scene, or how he wanted it executed,” Chavez told Taste of Country in January 2025. “And I think that’s beautiful. It just shows how much he really cares about the content that he’s putting out.”

Randolph told People in April 2025 that she’s constantly thanking Sheridan for casting her as Ainsley.

“Honestly, Taylor Sheridan takes chances on actors, and he’s one of the few people I feel like in the industry who really does that and has given us this opportunity,” Randolph shared. “And I just am eternally grateful for him.He made my dreams come true. I tell him that every time I see him.”

“I met Taylor on Wind River. That’s the first thing he hired me for. I said this earlier, I think it’s every actor’s dream to find a creator, a writer, a creator of worlds whose aesthetic you just match. I think I just match his aesthetic, and we enjoy working together. He’s very much a loyal man,” he told Collider in November 2024. “He hires a lot of the same people, crew, and actors and recycles a lot of us. I think that loyalty ensures that you’re gonna work your hardest, the hardest you can for him on any project. I’m a fan, and we like working together.”
