Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth gave viewers one of the most iconic TV romances ever as Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big, respectively, on Sex and the City.

The two were reportedly extremely close friends off screen for many years, with Noth publicly coming to Parker’s defense when she fell out with their Sex and the City costar Kim Cattrall.

“I just don’t like to see anyone talking down about SJ because she’s a target and people can be nasty,” Noth told The Guardian in December 2021.

Days after Noth made those statements, he was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Although Noth — who had just been killed off SATC spinoff And Just Like That — dismissed the allegations as “categorically false,” Parker publicly distanced herself from him at the time.

A new wrinkle developed in January 2026 when Noth seemingly agreed with an Instagram commenter who wrote “F*** SJP” in response to one of his Instagram posts.

Just as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte had their adventures, the cast of Sex and the City have been on what seems like a roller coaster since the show began in 1999. After running for six seasons, the HBO series wrapped in 2004. The costars went on to reprise their roles four years later: Sarah […]

Chris Noth Admitted He Was Annoyed By ‘Sex and the City’ Success at 1st

Before landing the role of Mr. Big, Chris Noth was best known for playing NYPD Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order in the early 1990s. While Logan was one of the most popular characters in the early years of the NBC procedural, Noth left Law & Order early enough to avoid being typecast in cop roles. (Noth spent five seasons on Law & Order. He later returned for the 1998 TV movie Exiled and the spinoff show Law & Order: Criminal Intent.)

Sex and the City creator Darren Star initially considered Alec Baldwin as Carrie Bradshaw’s lover Mr. Big when casting the HBO series before eventually settling on Noth. The series rocketed Noth and the entire cast of Sex and the City to new levels of stardom — which Noth wasn’t necessarily comfortable with.

“Initially, when the show became a cultural phenomenon, I was really annoyed by it, because I don’t like to be called a character’s name on the street and actors don’t like [characters] sticking to them,” he confessed to The Guardian in December 2021. “But eventually I thought: ‘Just stop resisting this because it’s not going away. People, for some reason, will always relate you to that part, so just let what you resist persist.’ And if I can be a small part of what people think of as New York City, that’s a really lovely thing.”

Chris Noth Once Called Carrie Bradshaw a ‘Whore’

Chris Noth raised eyebrows in an October 2014 interview with News.co.au when he disparaged Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw. Noth complained about the way viewers differentiated between Mr. Big and Carrie’s sex lives.

“Big was powerful because he had a lot of money and he seemed to have the upper hand in the relationship, but emotionally he was a wreck,” he insisted. “Actually, no — he was what he was. One of the things I tell people is that he never tried to pretend he was anything other than what he was.”

Noth insisted Carrie Bradshaw “tried to pretend [Big] was something he wasn’t” during their many breakups and reconciliations throughout Sex and the City.

“[Big] was always honest about himself — he never cheated on her,” Noth argued. “The relationship just didn’t work, and he went on to get married while she went on to… how many boyfriends did she have? She was such a whore! [laughs] There’s a misconception that Carrie was a victim of him, and that’s not the case — she was a strong, smart woman.”

Amid a backlash from Sex and the City fans, Noth insisted he’d only been joking when he called Carrie a “whore.”

Chris Noth Defended Sarah Jessica Parker During Her Feud With Kim Cattrall

Sex and the City fandom was divided forever when Kim Cattrall aired her grievances with Sarah Jessica Parker during a 2017 appearance on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. Cattrall complained that Parker “could have been nicer” during the making of Sex and the City and clarified she was never close with any of the core cast members.

The feud simmered on for years, with Noth taking Parker’s side during a December 2021 interview with The Guardian.

“I have to tell you, I have absolutely no idea what [Kim] thinking is, or her emotions,” he insisted. “I do know that I’m very close with SJ and [Cattrall’s] descriptions of her don’t even come close. I liked her, I thought she was marvelous in the show and some people move on for their own reasons. I don’t know what hers were. I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable.”

Noth said he took personal offense to “anyone talking down about SJ” because of their close friendship.

“She’s a target and people can be nasty,” he added. “I feel very protective of her and I was not happy about that. That’s all I’ll say about that.”

Sarah Jessica Parker Publicly Distanced Herself from Chris Noth Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Mere weeks after Chris Noth’s character Mr. Big was killed off in the 2021 premiere of Sex and the City sequel show And Just Like That, the actor faced multiple accusations of sexual misconduct.

On December 16, 2021, two women came forward with allegations that Noth assaulted them in incidents more than a decade apart, per The Hollywood Reporter. (The two alleged victims approached The Hollywood Reporter separately and maintained that they did not know each other.)

One woman accused Noth of raping her at his West Hollywood apartment in 2004. A separate incident allegedly occurred in 2015 when Noth allegedly assaulted a second woman in his New York City apartment. (Several other women later came forward to accuse Noth of misconduct.)

Noth told The Hollywood Reporter, “The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual. It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women.”

Max’s attempt to revive Sex and the City as And Just Like That has resulted in plenty of headlines. Sex and the City, which premiered in 1998, focused on Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her dating life in New York alongside her friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall). Less than a week after the allegations emerged, And Just Like That stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon released a joint statement distancing themselves from Noth.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth,” they said in an Instagram Story on December 21, 2021. “We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it much be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it.”

In May 2022, Parker confirmed that she had not spoken to Noth since the misconduct allegations were made public.

Asked to address the accusations, Parker told The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t even know if I’m ready to talk about it.”

Chris Noth Previously Denied a Feud With ‘Sex and the City’ Costars

Chris Noth attempted to downplay rumors that he’d fallen out with his Sex and the City costars in June 2023.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Noth responded directly to a New York Post article claiming he felt “iced out” by his former castmates, calling the story “absolute nonsense.”

Chris Noth Responded to Shady Post About Sarah Jessica Parker

Some unexpected drama started in the Instagram comments section of Chris Noth’s sneak peek at his gym routine on January 10, 2026. Noth initially posted the seemingly innocuous caption: “F&@k new years – LETS GO!!!!”

However, a fan replied with a shady comment about Sarah Jessica Parker accepting the Carol Burnett Award from the Golden Globes a few days earlier.

“You mean f*** sjp & her award right? Lol,” the fan wrote, with Noth surprisingly replying, “Right.”

His comments caused a new wave of controversy within the Sex and the City fan community — so much so that Noth attempted to set the record straight a few days later.

“My off the cuff slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot. It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion,” Noth wrote via Instagram on January 14, 2026.

He added, “It is a waste of time in a world where there are more important things to worry about.”
