Queen BoA Vacates Her Throne – Leaves SM Entertainment!

BoA, the one true Queen of K-pop, had previously revealed that her contract with SM would expire on December 31st, 2025. In South Korea, BoA has only been under one label since her debut in 2000. That label? SM. So, while she revealed that end date, some people (myself included) probably didn’t really think that anything would change and BoA would just renew her contract.

January 12th, 2026 proved these people wrong. They announced that, after “extensive and in-depth discussions” with BoA, they agreed to end their 25 year relationship. SM also stated that “for 25 years, BoA has been, without question, the pride, joy and symbol of SM.” Additionally, they pledge to support her in the future, wherever that may go.

BoA, for her part, left a message on her instagram that, when translated reads as follows:

“Having given and received without holding back, I leave without regrets. I’m grateful for the time we shared and will continue to support the ever-shining SM Entertainment. Thank you.”

BoA’s official YT channel also posted a special music video. And, y’all, I was not ready… I was not ready…

As for what the future holds for BoA? Right now… she’s seemingly keeping that close. But if she retires? I don’t even want to think about it…
