Megan Moroney and Riley Green have both denied they are anything more than friends — but Moroney’s new songs have some fans thinking there’s more to the story.
“You’ve got a hell of a reputation / So here I am patiently waiting / For that other shoe… or should I say boot to drop,” Moroney, 28, sings on her new track “Wish I Didn’t,” a snippet of which she shared via Instagram on Monday, January 12. “I’ve heard all of the horror stories / Your graveyard of girls before me / If you play dirty, how do I say this? / Hell hath no fury.”
As Moroney mouthed along to her song while wearing a pink hoodie in her car, fans began to question whether the song could be about Green, 37, and their rumored relationship.
“You show up and you’ve got all the right things to say / It’s all sunshine and blue skies / But I can also make it rain / Don’t make me wish I didn’t get dressed up…” Moroney continues in the short clip. (The full song comes out on Friday, January 16.)
One fan replied in the comments section, “THE RILEY DIG!!” claiming that the phrase “make it rain” is a reference to Green’s song by the same name.
“But I can also make it rain” 😏 Riley Green I think this is for you,” a second user wrote.
A third fan mused, “This has Mr. Green written all over it!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Love to hate it or hate to love it!”
Another eagle-eyed fan noticed that Moroney was wearing sunglasses to start the video but took them off — a seemingly subtle nod to Green allegedly deleting and reposting a photo of himself in sunglasses during a vacation they were rumored to have taken together. (In the now-deleted photo, a woman who looked like Moroney was visible in the reflection.)
“SHE ALSO DROPPED THE SUNGLASSES TO ‘MAKE IT RAIN’ it’s like a reference to the viral reflection in the sunglasses pic rumoring they were together on vacay,” one user pointed out in the comments section.
Moroney’s upcoming song “Who Hurt You?” which is off the same Cloud 9 album set to be released in February, also has fans raising their eyebrows — and it hasn’t even been shared publicly yet.
However, Moroney told Elaina Smith via a TikTok video on Monday that “Who Hurt You?” should answer people’s questions about her love life, hinting at the alleged Green love triangle with Ella Langley.

“I’m pretty consistently vulnerable, but there’s one song, ‘Who Hurt You?’ that I’m really excited for,” Moroney teased. “Bar for bar, didn’t lie, said everything so that I don’t have to answer interview questions about the situation.”
The musician added, “Yeah, and here’s my piece, and there’s no reason to ask me any questions about it because I told you what I needed to say. I’m [trying] to just be efficient here… I’m like, have you heard the song? Like, there should be no further questions.”
One TikTok fan was quick to assume that Moroney is speaking about her connection with Green, replying, “Def about Riley !!!!!”
A separate user wrote in the comments section, “Riley Green watching this,” alongside a meme from The Simpsons that read,”I’m in danger.”
Moroney’s seemingly pointed lyrics come after she was rumored to be seeing Green in early 2025.
The pair first sparked relationship speculation when TikTok users shared videos in January 2025 claiming Moroney and Green were both on vacation in St. Bart’s.
According to fans, Moroney and Green shared similar photos swimming with sharks and a man’s hand — speculated to be Green’s — was spotted in one of Moroney’s fishing pictures.
Moroney was also spotted wearing what appeared to be Green’s cowboy hat in a picture, which added fuel to the romance rumors.
Green, however, denied that he was dating anyone during a March 2025 appearance on the “In the Blind” podcast. “Single. That was an easy one,” he said when asked if he was on or off the market.
Prior to romance rumors with Moroney, Green was romantically linked to duet partner Langley, 26, but both he and the fellow country singer have maintained they are platonic.
Green joked during a December 2024 appearance on “The Viall Files” podcast that “Ella’s probably too smart to date me anyway.”
After the 2025 CMA Awards in November 2025, rumors surfaced that Green was in a love triangle with Langley and Moroney. When he and Langley won Single of the Year for “You Look Like You Love Me,” the cameras panned to Moroney in the audience, causing fans to freak out.
Moroney, however, denied the love triangle rumors, telling People that month, “I’m not dating right now at all. I’m too busy.”
