Mila Kunis recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she reflected on first meeting her husband, Ashton Kutcher—and how their long history ultimately laid the groundwork for their marriage.
Kunis joined That ’70s Show when she was just 14 years old, filming the pilot while still in ninth grade. She remained on the series until she was 22, growing up almost entirely on camera.
“I did my 16th birthday, my 18th birthday, I graduated, I attended college—I did everything on That ’70s Show,” Kunis recalled.
For Kunis, that shared history became especially meaningful years later when she and Kutcher reconnected.
“I married my best friend,” Kunis said. “When we reconnected, I was 27. But he knew me through all of it, and I knew him through all of it—the good, the bad, and the ugly. So when we reconnected, there was no getting to know each other again.”
She explained that there were no hidden secrets or surprises between them. “There was nothing to hide, and it made it really easy. Our foundation is built on respect, and it’s lovely. It really is lovely.”
Back in 2001, Kunis told PEOPLE that her first kiss ever happened on That ’70s Show—with Kutcher. At the time, she admitted she was completely smitten.
“I was like, ‘Oh, he’s so cute—it’s the Calvin Klein model!’” she said. “Then I was like, ‘I have to kiss him?’ I was so nervous and uncomfortable. I had the biggest crush on him.”
Kutcher went on to marry Demi Moore in September 2005. The couple announced their split in 2011, with Moore saying in a statement, “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton.” Kutcher echoed the sentiment, adding that he would “forever cherish” their time together. Their divorce was finalized in November 2013.
In January 2012, Kunis and Kutcher crossed paths again at the Golden Globe Awards. During a later appearance on WTF with Marc Maron, Kunis recalled the moment vividly.
“I was looking around, and there was a really beautiful man from the back,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh, he’s kind of hot.’ And then he turned around, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, it’s Kutch.’”
She added that it felt surreal to suddenly see someone she had known for years in a completely new light. “I thought it was the weirdest thing that I was checking this guy out, and it was someone I had known forever.”
Two years later, the longtime friends got engaged and tied the knot in a private, low-key ceremony in July 2015. The pair share two children together: daughter Wyatt Isabelle, 11, and son Dimitri Portwood, 9.
