Avatar: Fire and Ash once again led the box office this weekend, bringing in $21.3 million for a $342.59 million domestic total. In its fourth weekend of release, it has hit $1.23 billion globally.
In second place was newcomer Primate, with $11.3 million, followed very closely by The Housemaid with $11.2 million. The Housemaid has been a big hit for Lionsgate, bringinging in $94.1 million domestic in four weekends of release.
Fourth place went to Zootopia 2, bringing in $10.2 million. The film doesn’t perform as well on weekdays since most children are back in school, but on weekends, it is still a popular choice in in its seventh weekend of release, making $378.8 million domestically and $1.65 billion globally.
In the fifth spot was Greenland 2: Migration, with $8.5 million, in its first weekend of release. It was produced by STX for $90 million, but Lionsgate acquired domestic rights for $10 million.
And in the sixth spot was Marty Supreme, with $7.3 million in its fourth weekend of release, bringing its total domestic take over four weekends to $70.1 million. It fell only 38% from last weekend, and has eclipsed the domestic box office of A24’s Civil War, making it second only to Everything Everywhere All At Once for A24’s highest grossing film. Tonight’s Golden Globe Awards and the upcoming Oscar nominations could potentially give the film long legs.
