Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary makes his acting debut in ‘Marty Supreme’ as a successful pen entrepreneur who is married to retired actress played by Gwyneth Paltrow. After Timmy Chalamet’s aspiring ping-pong champion Marty Mauser begins an affair with Paltrow’s character, he realizes the pen guy could be his ticket to the world championship in Tokyo — “but it comes with a humiliating price.”
O’Leary explained in an interview that Chalamet had the option to sit the scene out and use a butt double, but he wanted his own butt flaps on screen. The scene featured O’Keary spanking Chalamet with a ping pong paddle.
“When it came time to whack him, there was a stunt ass. There was a double,” O’Leary said. “[Chalamet] wouldn’t do it. He said he’ll do it himself. He didn’t want some other ass immortalized.”
He went to say that they initially used a fake paddle but it immediately broke over Chalamet’s butt so they used a real one. The director Josh Safdie shot the scene over hours, about 40 takes until four in the morning.
“Josh was saying, ‘You’ve got to wind up harder,’” O’Leary remembers. “I was really whacking him.”
