Romy and Jake Reiner are finding moments of calm amid unbearable tragedy.
Just weeks after the shocking murders of their parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, the siblings were photographed taking a quiet walk together along the beach in Malibu, California, on December 29. The outing marks the first time Romy and Jake have been publicly seen together since losing their mother and father — an alleged double homicide that prosecutors say was carried out by their older brother, Nick Reiner.
In the photos, the pair stayed close while strolling along the shoreline near a beach house where they’ve reportedly been staying with loved ones. The outing was simple and subdued — a quiet afternoon near the ocean as the siblings continue to process their grief.
Romy, 28, kept her look relaxed in a dark sweater, loose jeans and a baseball cap, appearing makeup-free as she held what looked like a dog leash while walking. Jake, 25, wore a light T-shirt, dark shorts, a baseball cap and sunglasses, keeping his hands in his pockets while walking just steps away from his sister. The siblings were joined by Jake’s girlfriend, Maria Gilfillan, and another woman.
The outing came shortly after Romy made her first public appearance in the wake of her parents’ deaths. On December 27, she was photographed at a small birthday gathering near the same Malibu beach house, surrounded by close friends and family. Her boyfriend, Alex Silberberg, was also present and was seen walking a dog along the sand that day.
According to a source per OK Magazine, Romy and Jake are still in shock as they try to navigate life without their parents. “[Romy] and Jake are numb right now,” the insider shared.
The same source claimed Romy had long struggled with fear surrounding her brother Nick, even before his alleged involvement in their parents’ deaths. “It feels like Romy has been scared of Nick since she was a child,” the insider alleged. “Even before his drug addiction, his outbursts were frightening because they seemed to come out of nowhere. She tried to stay out of his way as much as she could, but it wasn’t easy.”
Nick Reiner, a former screenwriter, was arrested on December 14 — hours after Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home. Romy is reportedly the one who made the heartbreaking discovery.
In a statement on December 16, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office confirmed, “If convicted as charged, Reiner faces death or life in state prison without the possibility of parole.”
