A couple in California has been accused of torturing and killing the man’s 14-month-old daughter.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday, December 2 that Alfredo Muñoz Jr. and Kelly Anelalani Muñoz are both facing one count of murder, torture and assault on a child causing death in connection after they allegedly killed the child.
During a court hearing on Monday, December 1, Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Brian Rosenberg alleged that the couple “broke multiple bones” of the young girl “over numerous incidents” that began on July 1, according to the Long Beach Post.
A press release stated that the Long Beach Police Department responded to Miller Children’s Hospital on November 7 regarding “a possible child abuse incident.”

The child, who was identified as Tilly S., was found “unresponsive and with signs of trauma,” according to the release. Tilly was put on life support, though she died three days later from her injuries.
An investigation was launched and detectives determined that “there had been ongoing abuse to the child and the victim’s death was a result of abuse from her father and stepmother,” per the release.
Alfredo, 40, and Kelly, 34, were arrested on November 25 and they were booked into the Long Beach City Jail with both of their bonds being set at $3 million.

“The tragic death of this little girl is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacred responsibility we all share to protect our children from harm,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement about the incident. “Our Office is committed to seeking justice for Tilly and ensuring those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Alfredo has a history of legal issues. The Los Angeles Times reported that he previously pleaded no contest to one count of willful cruelty to a child causing possible injury or death, according to court records. He was subsequently sentenced to serve four years in prison in 2021, according to the outlet.
The couple is scheduled to appear at an arraignment hearing on December 16.
