Nearly a year after the debut of Wicked hit theatres, the highly anticipated second chapter arrived on Friday, November 21. Wicked: For Good, led by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, brings the Tony-winning Broadway musical to the big screen.
The sequel explores the origin stories of The Wizard of Oz’s Scarecrow (Jonathan Bailey) and Tin Man (Ethan Slater), just as the stage production does. But this time, Dorothy Gale, the Kansas farm girl at the center of Oz’s most famous story, plays a more prominent role than she ever did on Broadway.
Still, despite her increased presence, one detail remains a mystery, Dorothy’s face never appears on screen.
The film’s director, Jon M. Chu, told People in October 2025, “I didn’t want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with,” adding that ultimately, the story is “still Elphaba and Glinda’s journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it.”
The film’s credits, however confirm that Bethany Weaver is the actress behind the mysterious role.
Here’s what to know about Weaver, who brings Dorothy Gale to life in Wicked: For Good.
Weaver is based in Surrey, a small town in South East England, according to her WhatsOnStage bio. She was born on November 21, 1995 and has a twin sister, according to her Instagram page.
In addition to acting, Weaver is also a trained choreographer and dancer. She choreographed the West End musical Asmahan at the Peacock Theatre and previously performed in the ensemble of Rumi the Musical and Broken Wings the Musical in 2018.
In June, Weaver posted on Instagram, “First dance solo, Third West End Show, First time choreographing a show. This is the year of big goals, big blessings and big changes for the better ✨🙏.”
While the character Dorothy may not have resorted to any magic in Wicked: For Good, Weaver may have manifested some of her own to land the role.
In March 2022, she shared an Instagram video of herself singing “The Wizard and I,” captioning it, “aggressively manifesting that one day I will be in Wicked!”
Weaver reflected on the life-changing opportunity in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“This has been a life changing experience, it’s changed me in so many ways and most importantly, for good. It’s been an honour to carry the legacy of the brilliant women before me who have stepped into these shoes, and embarked on the yellow brick road. I hope I have made them proud.”
She continued, “Thank you for the sheer volume of love, kind messages and support from all of my friends and family and the glorious wicked fans, I love you all so much! Lots of love, your friend, Dorothy.”
