Jungle Cruise is a fantasy adventure film based on the Disney theme park attraction directed by Jaume Collet-Serra released in July 2021.

It performed decently with critics and the at the box office but still came in under expectations. Nonetheless, Disney gave a sequel the green light in August 2021 with Emily and Dwayne expected to reprise their roles as Dr. Lily Houghton and Frank Wolff, respectively.

When The Awardist host Gerrad Hall asked whether the sequel is still happening, both actors said, “I don’t think so.”

“I think when Disney came under new leadership, they just shifted coming out of COVID. COVID shifted our business in a lot of ways. I think they looked at that property and thought, we did it once, not sure if we should revisit it again. Despite whether or not our chemistry was great,” Dwayne explained.

Emily added that “they did not want to set sail again, and that’s fine.”

It sounds like we can safely say the sequel is dead, at least for now.

In the meantime, the Black Adam star is hard at work on the fourth Jumanji film currently in production.
