Jodi Arias’ crime has been documented in many projects. Now her story will again be the subject of the upcoming Gray Media and Arizona’s Family documentary Obsessed: Unraveling Jodi Arias.

Life & Style breaks down everything to know about Arias, her murder case and the upcoming documentary.

    Who Is Jodi Arias?

Arias previously made headlines when she was accused of killing her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander while he was in the shower at his home in Mesa, Arizona in 2008.

During the investigation into Alexander’s murder, Arias told police that her ex was killed by intruders who threatened to kill her after.

“He was kneeling down in the shower, I don’t remember, I was taking pictures, and I don’t really know what happened after that exactly, except I think he was shot,” Arias told police, per ABC News. “I was on my knees here and I heard this loud ring, I don’t really remember except Travis was screaming.”

Arias was found guilty of killing Alexander in May 2013, and she was sentenced to life in prison for the crime, according to ABC News.

What Sentence Did Jodi Arias Receive?

Two juries were unable to decide if Arias should receive the death penalty, so it was up to Judge Sherry Stephens to decide if she would serve her natural life in prison or have the possibility of parole after 25 years.

“It’s my firm belief that death would bring me untold peace and freedom. If I die today, I would be free and I would be at peace,” Arias said in her final plea to be considered for parole, per ABC News. “For years, that’s exactly what I wanted. But I have to fight for my life just like I did on June 4, 2008 because I realize how selfish it would be for me to escape accountability for this mess that I created.”

She went on to claim that Alexander was trying to attack her before she stabbed him and shot him. “To this day I cannot believe I was capable of doing something that terrible,” Arias said in court. “I’m truly disgusted and I’m repulsed with myself. I wish there was some way I could take it back.”
