Simone Biles was always planning to publicly address her breast augmentation.
Biles, 28, got candid about why she decided to go under the knife in a new interview with People published on Thursday, November 13.
The gymnast made it clear that she wasn’t unhappy about the way she looked before getting the surgery, but wanted to feel even more confident. “It’s just something that I notice obviously a little bit more because I live in this body, I’m just so used to it,” she explained.
When it came to sharing the news with her followers, Biles shared that she’s “always tried to be open, honest and relatable.”
“Seeing me win medals at the Olympics, that’s not relatable,” she quipped. “But what is relatable is how we feel about ourselves, what we talk about, what we go through and how we share openly, honestly. And so that’s why I decided to share it,” she explained.
Biles added that social media “is not real” so she always tries “to be as transparent as possible.”
“I also think it shows young girls that they have the right to their own choices, whatever they are, and that’s no shame added as well,” Biles noted. “I feel like nowadays with social media, you see everyone and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, how does she look so good?’”
When it comes to other work that she’s had done, Biles shared that when she turned 27, she experimented with Botox, but “it didn’t go well.”
“I didn’t like it because I had a floating eyebrow and everyone was asking what that was,” Biles told the publication.

She also got a lower bleph surgery to remove extra skin from her eyelids. “Me and my family have, I call it the ‘Biles eye bags,’” she joked. “We’ve just always had them, hereditary, and so that was just a big flaw.” Biles recalled being at photo shoots and the team wanting to put eye “strips” on her to make her appear less tired.
“And I was like, ‘Oh, baby, I had 12 hours last night, these aren’t going away. These are just hereditary,’” she recalled telling the team. “So it’s something that I wanted to fix.”
She also had plastic surgery on her ear after an earring got ripped out during her childhood.
“OK, obviously you can notice the breasts,” she says. “But other than that, it’s just feeling good about yourself and loving yourself, and I’ve always been very vocal about that.”
Biles added, “As long as you love yourself, that’s really all that matters.”
The Olympian previously opened up about the work she had done earlier this month while getting unready via TikTok. After sharing that she’s had three surgeries, she urged fans to guess which ones in the comments section.
After her followers guessed which surgeries she’s had done, Biles replied, ““🍒, lower bleph because I had THE WORST eye bags & ear lobe — my earring got ripped out when I was younger.”
