Law & Order: SVU characters Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler are one of television’s most beloved will-they-won’t-they couples. Their dynamic has stretched on for more than two decades now and even spilled over into the spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime.
After all this time, they still have a dedicated fanbase rooting for them to get together, especially after their recent near-kiss in season 24.
Christopher Meloni, who plays Elliot in the Law & Order universe, recently chimed in on what he thinks makes the relationship so compelling and the ideal ending he has in mind for Benson and Stabler.

“Gosh. They know each other in an unspoken way, and I think it’s the depth of their friendship,” he told People. “And they’ve made these stabs or these attempts at making this thing another thing…”
“For Benson and Stabler to get together, it’s hard! Hard,” Chris added, and then he chuckled about the accidental innuendo. “Am I blushing?”
The 64-year-old actor remained coy on whether he wants them to become a couple, but he did say he wants both characters to “ride off into the sunset” in the end.
Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 is currently airing on NBC, with episodes also streaming on Peacock. Law & Order: SVU season 27 returns with new episodes on November 13.
