Based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Justin Fenton, a current investigative reporter for the Baltimore Sun, this dramatized series takes a look at the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force, a corrupt crime division whose sergeant, Wayne Jenkins, was one of eight other officer who were convicted of various corruption charges between 2018 and 2019. Told in non-linear narrative and with flashbacks, We Own This City’s cast includes Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), David Corenswet (Superman) and Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession).
From David Simon, We Own This City was felt by some critics to be a fantastic spiritual successor to Simon’s previous series, The Wire, praising its even darker outlook towards the police and systemic corruption. Bernthal’s performance as Wayne Jenkins was noted as a standout in particular.
