Only Murders in the Building season 5 just wrapped, and in true Arconia fashion, the finale was packed with twists, betrayals, and one killer reveal that fans didn’t see coming.
After a season full of red herrings and mobster mayhem, the Hulu hit finally unmasked Lester the Doorman’s murderer — and it wasn’t who most viewers suspected. The Oct. 27 finale revealed that Mayor Beau Tillman (Keegan-Michael Key) was the one who killed Lester (Teddy Coluca), setting off a dramatic chain of events that pulled Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short), and Charles (Steve Martin) right back into danger.
Here’s how it all went down: Beau’s affair with Sofia (Téa Leoni), the wife of mobster Nicky (Bobby Cannavale), sparked the chaos. After discovering the betrayal, Nicky cut off his own finger as revenge — yes, that mysterious finger that turned up in Oliver’s apartment last season. When Lester tried to protect the Arconia by killing Nicky before the mob could take over, he made himself a target. Beau wanted to cover his tracks, retrieve his finger, and keep his shady casino deal with Camila White (Renée Zellweger), Sebastian “Bash” Steed (Christoph Waltz), and Jay Pflug (Logan Lerman) under wraps.
But in a shocking moment, Beau shoved Lester into the Arconia fountain, causing him to hit his head and die instantly. The heartbreaking twist? Lester actually tried to text Mabel, Oliver, and Charles the name of his killer — but his phone’s autocorrect ruined the message.
When the trio finally pieced the mystery together, Beau panicked and locked them in a hidden room ahead of the Arconia’s planned demolition. Luckily, they escaped just in time to expose the truth, leading to Beau’s arrest — and, for now, saving their beloved building.
Of course, the finale couldn’t end without setting up another murder. In a full-circle moment, Mabel, Oliver, and Charles sat down to revisit Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) old podcast from season 1, which detailed a red-haired British woman accused of killing a royal heir. But in a jaw-dropping twist, it turned out Cinda was actually talking about herself.
The final moments showed Cinda stumbling through the streets with bloodied hands before being found dead — right outside the Arconia. And just like that, another case lands in the laps of Mabel, Oliver, and Charles.
