Jeremy Allen White is getting candid about his fatherhood duties. The 34-year-old shares two children with his ex-wife, actress Addison Timlin, and the former couple have a joint custody agreement in place.
Speaking with The Times ahead of the release of his Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me from Nowhere, White quipped that sometimes his daughters Ezer, 7, and Dolores, 5, will ask, “Why did somebody make Dad’s face so large?” when they see him on billboards.
Though he was already known for the long running Showtime comedy drama series Shameless when his girls were born, White’s career exploded when he landed the career-turning role of Carmy on FX’s The Bear. For both the actor and his kids, the sudden fame took a bit of an adjustment.
“There have been periods in the last few years where there has been more scrutiny, or something going on in my personal life that has been of interest, and none of that is welcome,” White told the publication. “You want as much anonymity as possible.”
“But I feel very lucky, he continued. “I’ve been doing this since I was 15 and all things considered I’m all right and I get to do the thing that I love and if the trade-off is, on occasion, having somebody follow me around with a camera, that’s OK.”
Before getting cast as Lip on Shameless in 2011, White appeared in a handful of films, including 2008’s Afterschool where he reconnected with Timlin after the pair attended high school together.
“And after a while, people will stop following you once they realize that all you do is pick up your kids from school and come home. My life—my normal life—is very simple,” he explained. “Like today. I made breakfast for my daughters, took them to school and later I will pick them up and make dinner.”
When asked if he can cook like his onscreen alter ego, White admitted that he actually can. “I have seven dinner dishes I do well, and three my children enjoy,” he quipped. “You do the prep, then they take a bite and just ask for chicken nuggets.”
White comes off like quite the doting dad, as he did at the 2024 Emmy awards when he shouted out his daughters during his acceptance speech for outstanding lead actor in The Bear.
“Ezer and Louie, I love you so, so, so, so much,” he said at the end of his speech. “You are my heart. Thank you.”
