Seth Rogen is explaining why he thinks he has been banned from being a presenter at the Emmy Awards.

The 43-year-old actor explained his thought process during his recent visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday (October 6).

“I presented there, I think it was four years ago at this point, and I have not been invited back,” Seth said.

The late-night host then reminded everyone what happened the last time that the actor presented, which was at the 2021 Emmy Awards during the COVID pandemic.

“You said, and this is a direct quote: ‘Let me start by saying there’s way too many of us in this little room. What are they doing? They said this was outdoors. It is not. They lied to us. We are in a hermetically sealed tent right now. I would not have come to this. Why is there a roof?’”

The audience seemed to agree with Seth‘s assertion at the time, as he was applauded.

According to the Canadian native, he was lied to and told the ceremony would be held at an outdoor venue.

“And I had all intention of doing the dumb schtick that they had written for me. And then I showed up, and I was like, ‘We’re in a tent. I can’t ignore this. We’re going to kill these old … Eugene Levy‘s here. We’re going to kill Eugene Levy. I don’t want to do that,’” the Knocked Up star continued.

Apparently several of the Emmy producers were “outwardly pissed off” as he left the stage.

Perhaps the most amusing part of the exchange is when Jimmy confirms that Seth really is banned from presenting.

“Can I tell you something? I checked today because, you know, I’ve hosted the Emmys quite a few times. And you are indeed banned from presenting.”

Seth took the moment to joke that he’s just like the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host, who recently dealt with a suspension controversy.

“I’m with you. I’m like you. They’re trying to silence me,” he joked.

Nonetheless, the This Is the End director admits that he did go “very off-book and made them look bad” so he gets it.

On the positive side, Seth‘s suspension doesn’t prevent him from being nominated. His Apple TV+ series The Studio took home multiple awards at the 2025 Emmys, with Seth himself winning Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Director along with the show’s other big wins.
