Longtime HGTV host Christina Haack is opening up about her failed third marriage to realtor Josh Hall, which was documented throughout the first season of her renovation competition series, Flip Off.
Haack and Hall were married for just under three years, from October 2021 to July 2024, shortly after her divorce from British television presenter Ant Antstead was finalized. The 42-year-old was also married to her Flip or Flop co-host Tarek El Moussa from 2009 through 2018.
Now, Haack says she’s learned is not to rush into things.
“To be honest, the first time he proposed, I said no and he threw the ring in the pool. There are red flags there, and I’m going to blame myself for most of these,” she told People in an interview posted to Instagram. “I felt a lot of pressure. It’s, you know, a whirlwind. At the time, that felt normal to me, and that has been my past.”
Haack clarified that while she was used to “quick courting,” the relationship didn’t feel right even then because he would make her feel bad about things.
“And it’s constant, it was constantly like that during our relationship,” she explained. “This whole thing makes me as a mom and a woman feel bad, to be honest, and feel a little strange that I, for whatever reason, allowed that to go on so long.”
“Of course, at the beginning of the relationship, you know, things are, things are great, but I’ve learned a lot more about red flags and rushing into things, and a ton about rushing into things,” Haack continued. “And yeah, things are great for the first year, but after that, it steadily was not so great.”
She and Hall appeared in just one episode of Flip Off together. The premise of the series was for the couple to face off in home renovations against Tarek and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa. However instead, their breakup was documented in the series premiere. Haack said that a big factor in their split was that it wasn’t easy for Hall to suddenly find himself in the spotlight.
“I mean, even me being in this, it can be strange at times, and you’re compared to other people and all of a sudden you’re, you’re on TV or you’re not on TV,” she said. “And it’s just, I think it was too much for him and it weighed on him.”
However, despite their acrimonious, public divorce, Haack maintains that she hopes Hall is happy and has no ill will against him. When their divorce was finalized back in August, it was revealed that Haack had agreed to pay Hall $300,000 from the sale of their Nashville property, in addition to $40,000 in legal fees.
“I was upset at the beginning and I was talking about it because I was honestly shocked about what he was going after financially,” she said, adding that he always promised her that he would never do that. “So I was very angry and I was hoping that by talking about it and putting it out there, that he would back down and be embarrassed as a man—It didn’t work.”
“But now I have no desire to go pop off on him, to go talk about him,” she added. “I was in a very upset state at the time, but now everything’s very calm and I, yeah, there’s, there’s no bad wishes there.”
Haack is currently dating her boyfriend of about one year, CEO Chris Larocca. Though, having learned from her mistakes, she’s taking this relationship slow.
“We’re not even discussing getting married. We’re not discussing getting engaged,” she told People. “We’re taking things slow. I promise. We’re not having children together. We’re not in a rush. We don’t have a timeline. He’s a super busy man. He has his own life, his own friends, his own career, and he’s pragmatic.”
