Lola Young is pressing pause on her skyrocketing career. Days after collapsing on stage during a music festival, the 24-year-old pop sensation announced she is taking a hiatus “for the foreseeable future,” leaving fans both concerned and supportive.
The shocking moment happened on September 27 at the All Things Go Festival in New York City’s Forest Hills Stadium. According to Billboard, Young was performing her song “Conceited” when she stopped mid-lyrics to speak with her keyboardist. Moments later, she collapsed onstage, appearing flushed before falling backward. Her team, band and security rushed to her aid and carried her offstage as stunned fans looked on.
In the immediate aftermath, the “Blind Love” singer reassured her followers on Instagram Stories: “Hi, For anyone who saw my set at all things go today, i am doing okay now. Thank you for all of your support Lola xxx.”
Despite her insistence that she was recovering, Young canceled two shows that followed and ultimately decided she needed a longer break. On September 30, she posted a heartfelt statement on Instagram announcing she would be stepping away from all her upcoming commitments.
“I’m going away for a while,” she wrote. “It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the love and support. I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know. Obviously you will be entitled to a full refund. I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger.”
Young didn’t go into detail about what caused her collapse or what influenced her decision to step back. However, her manager, Nick Shymansky, addressed the situation in a statement of his own.
“Lola is very open about her mental health and there are very occasionally days where myself and my team have to take protective measures to keep her safe,” he explained. “She is an incredible person and always takes her fans, career and performances seriously. I can only send huge apologies for the inconvenience caused.”
The British singer-songwriter’s career has been on a sharp upward trajectory, fueled in part by the viral success of her single “Messy” on TikTok. Her raw lyrics and soulful vocals have earned her international acclaim, making the news of her hiatus even more surprising.
