Halsey is offering an update on their battles with lupus and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.
“I just wanted to give you a speed round of updates. [I] just did another few sessions of chemo,” Halsey, 30, said in a TikTok video shared on Thursday, September 25. “[I] had a new port placed. We just put the Back to Badlands show together, and it’s going to be unbelievable [and] so amazing. My birthday’s in a couple of days. I’m so busy, I haven’t even thought about it at all.”
In between Halsey’s musical commitments, they — the pop star uses she/they pronouns — have been navigating health struggles.
“In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder,” they wrote in a June 2024 Instagram post. “Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life.”
Halsey continued, “After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After two years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to.”
The next year, Halsey gave fans a follow-up update on her health.
“Hey. I just wanna say; I looked and felt like this two years ago and every step forward I have come since then is a miracle,” they wrote via Instagram in January. “I’m figuring it out on my own time, thank you to everyone who has been along for the ride. Also I’m cute as f*** now, so that’s great.”
In addition to lupus and lymphoproliferative disorder, Halsey has dealt with endometriosis.
“Before I could even really figure out what that meant to me and what that meant for my future, for my career, for my life, for my relationship … the next thing I know I was onstage miscarrying in the middle of my concert,” Halsey said on The Doctors in 2018. “Reproductive illness is so frustrating because it can really make you feel like less of a woman. There’s a lot of times when you’re sitting at home and you just feel so terrible about yourself. You’re sick, you don’t feel sexy, you don’t feel proud, you don’t feel like there’s much hope.”
Halsey discovered that they had endometriosis after a series of fertility struggles and miscarriages. Halsey later gave birth to son Ender in July 2021 with now-ex Alev Aydin. After Halsey and Aydin ended their relationship, Halsey moved on with actor Avan Jogia. They got engaged in 2024 after one year of dating.
“He proposed in Barcelona. It’s kind of where we first started hanging out, so it’s really special to us,” Halsey said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast months later in October 2024. “Immediately afterward, [he] left to go shoot a show for, like, six months in Canada, and I was like, ‘OK, bye.’ I never wanted to be married, [but with] Avan … I just knew I wanted to marry him.”
