Suki Waterhouse has always been known for her eccentric style, which makes sense given that the indie pop singer got her start modeling in London in her teens. But now that she’s a mother, having welcomed a daughter with actor Robert Pattinson in 2024, it stands to reason that her priorities might shift.
E! News caught up with Waterhouse at the Michael Kors fashion show for New York Fashion Week on Thursday, September 11 and asked her how motherhood has changed her style.
“I don’t think it’s changed it that much, you know, when I’m coming out especially to do something like today, because she’s far away from me right now,” the the 33-year-old explained. “But when I’m, you know, day to day, obviously doing mom stuff, day to day, I feel like it’s probably changed quite a lot.”
Waterhouse noted that she avoids wearing anything that could get in the way of holding her daughter, or anything that a baby might pull on. “I’ve had really nice, interesting earrings I can’t wear as much anymore,” she said.
However, it sounds as though the apple hasn’t fallen that far from the tree.
“But my daughter really loves fittings. Like when I have something to go to, she wants to come to the fitting,” she continued. “One of her first words has been rings. She’s constantly making me take off my rings and she loves jewelry and sparkly things. So I feel like she, yeah, she kind of loves what I like. So it’s been really, really fun, to include her in everything.”
“Oh my god, she’s into rings, necklaces, she’s into Ms. Rachel,” Waterhouse added. “She’s into—she can say pig now, she can say like mommy pig, you know, for Peppa Pig, obviously.”
Waterhouse previously opened up about motherhood in British Vogue last July, just months after giving birth to her daughter. In a a single word, she described motherhood as “shocking.”
“Shocking in every way,” she laughed, telling the publication that she was unprepared for having to breastfeed every two hours. “I was alarmed in the hospital when they kept waking me up. I was like, ‘Excuse me? Is this what this entails?’” she recalled.
Waterhouse also praised Pattinson for being her rock through the delivery and early parenthood. “He was there with me and like all dads, he was really nervous, but for someone who’s quite an anxious person, he’s been very calm,” she continued, calling Pattinson “the dad she could have hoped for.”
“I mean a dad and his daughter? It’s an actual love story,” she added.
