The Vampire Diaries is back in the news about 16 years after it first debuted!
The CW supernatural series premiered in September 2009, running for eight seasons and 171 episodes.
Based on the book series by LJ Smith and created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, the show centered on “seventeen-year-old Elena is torn between two vampire brothers, good Stefan and the evil Damon, who face new dangers in the town of Mystic Falls.”
Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R McQueen, Kat Graham, Candice King, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, Matthew Davis and more all starred on the show throughout its eight years on the air.
From it’s success, the popular show spawned two spinoffs – The Originals and Legacies, and there’s even been talks for a fourth series in the TVD universe.
