Garrett Clayton previously played the role of Link Larkin in NBC’s Hairspray Live and now he is taking on a new role in the musical for a stage production!
The former Disney Channel star will be playing Corny Collins in a new Los Angeles production of the musical, which is being directed by original Broadway cast member Marissa Jaret Winokur.
Marissa won a Tony Award for playing Tracy Turnblad over 20 years ago and now she’s putting her own spin on the beloved musical for 5-Star Theatricals.
The production will star newcomer Lexie Martin as Tracy Turnblad and Ryan O’Connor as Edna Turnblad. Performances will run from October 10 to October 26 at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the musical follows teenage Tracy Turnblad’s dream to dance on “The Corny Collins Show,” a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, leading to social change as Tracy campaigns for the show’s integration.
The original stars of Hairspray reunited last year for an incredible cabaret show.
