The Summer I Turned Pretty fans discovered a possible editing — and continuity — mistake after the surprising outcome of Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding.

A viewer took to TikTok after the new episode aired on Wednesday, August 27, writing, “Me thoroughly enjoying ep 8 … only to feel a tad blindsided when the fictional MA setting vibe gets thrown out the window.”

The post showed the moment Belly (Lola Tung) left the fictional Cousins Beach in Boston while heading to the airport. In the scene, there was a palm tree, which some fans took as an indication that the scene was filmed in a more tropical state.

All three seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty has been filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. Locations included Carolina Beach, Fort Fisher and Wave Transit’s Padgett Station, so the scene couldn’t have been an error that came from being in Los Angeles, where principal production has occurred for many popular TV shows.

While TV shows and movies have teams dedicated to making sure nothing goes wrong on the production side, things slip through the cracks from time to time. That’s where fans come in. Based on Jenny Han‘s book series of the same name, The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Belly as she is caught in a love triangle between Conrad (Chris Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). In addition to the main trio, viewers have also learned more about Belly’s brother, Steven (Sean Kaufman), mom Laurel (Jackie Chung) and best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer).

Han wrote a trilogy — The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer — which appeared to indicate that the show would only last three seasons. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, previously hinted at plans for the series to grow beyond the events in the books.

“I will say stay tuned, but Jenny’s got some exciting surprises. So we’re thrilled about a season 3, and she’s got a vision for more,” he told Deadline in September 2023. “This show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it. Jenny’s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we’re already hard at work developing complementary pieces.”

More recently, however, Sanders shut down the idea of a possible TSITP spinoff.

“That was probably wishful thinking for me at the time, and Jenny has stayed really focused [on] getting these seasons right,” he shared with Deadline in July. “We’re pursuing new and different things with Jenny right now. She’s presented some other things that are related to this.”

Sanders noted that he hoped to continue to collaborate with Han, 44, in some capacity.

“So once the full season is launched, we’ll get into conversations, and we’ll ask her to pick from the many things that she’s surfaced,” he added. “But we’ve moved away from those conversations.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty airs on Prime Video Wednesdays.
