Lil Nas X‘s father Robert Stafford is sharing more details about visiting his son in jail after his arrest.
If you don’t know, the 26-year-old “Old Town Road” rapper was discovered walking down a Los Angeles road on Thursday (August 21) wearing just his underwear and a pair of cowboy boots. He was arrested for battery of a police officer and later charged with four felonies.
In a new interview, Robert shared a heartbreaking update following his son’s arrest.
Keep reading to find out more…“I went to visit him in jail, and as soon as I walked through that door, I couldn’t do anything but cry,” Robert told The Sunday Times in an interview published Friday (August 29).
“To see my baby boy on the other side of that glass,” he continued. “We shed tears with each other for a minute.”
Robert recalled telling Lil Nas X that “‘what you’re going through is normal. We all have breakdowns every now and then, but the difference is, yours played out in the public eye.’”
He also said that Lil Nas X expressed remorse for his actions.
“When I went to visit he asked me to say, ‘tell everybody I’m sorry they saw me like that,’” Robert recalled. “Even in that moment, he was apologizing to people for something he was going through.”
Robert also described his son’s “breakdown” as the ultimate price of fame.
“I understand how the music business is,” Robert said. “It’s like a high. When you get to that level, you want that drug again, you want to hit that high again.”
Lil Nas X also just recently broke his silence following the incident.
