Ed Kelce is giving fans an inside look at how his son, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, popped the question to Taylor Swift.

On August 26, the couple confirmed they are officially engaged after two years of dating, sharing romantic photos from their floral-filled proposal on Instagram. Their joint caption read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

The announcement immediately sent Swifties into detective mode. Fans began analyzing the timing of the post, the color of Taylor’s nails, and even her recent appearance on Travis’ New Heights podcast for any hidden clues. But just hours later, Travis’ dad stepped in to share how the special moment really unfolded.

    When Did Travis Kelce Propose?

In an interview with ABC News 5 Cleveland, Ed revealed that the tight end got down on one knee a little earlier than the public announcement.

“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago. He was going to put it off ‘til this week,” Ed said.

According to him, Travis originally had big plans to stage an elaborate event. “He was going to make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” he explained. But Ed offered a piece of fatherly advice. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event.”

Though Ed didn’t give the exact date, he recalled being at a Philadelphia Eagles public practice when he got the call from the couple. The team most recently hosted a public practice on Sunday, August 10.

Where and How Did the Proposal Happen?

Ed went on to share that the engagement took place at a garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed revealed. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”

Ed also admitted he had been expecting the proposal for quite some time. “That’s when it became obvious they were just crazy about each other,” he said, referring to last year’s NFL season.

And when Ed asked Travis recently when the world would find out, his son made it clear who had the final say: “He said, ‘Whenever Taylor says so.’”
