Jean Smart is sharing more details about the scary injury that had her on a two-week hiatus from Call Me Izzy!
The 73-year-old actress was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday (August 7). While on the show, Jean shared details about breaking her knee while shopping last month!
Jean shared that she’s been healing from the injury and opened up about why the healing process has made her feel “older” than she normally does.

The Hacks said that she was shopping in New York City when she tripped over something and the fall caused her to break “her kneecap in half.”
She recalled the accident on the talk show and said, “I went to Macy’s to buy myself a cute little Fourth of July outfit to wear to the fireworks. I was outside trying to hail a cab, and I saw one. I went, ‘Oh,’ and I tripped over something.”
Jean had a good sense of humor as she recalled the accident and said, “As I was laying there, I was thinking, ‘Oh God, don’t! Please don’t take a picture, anybody please.’
Jean shared that she saw someone else trip over the same spot that caused her to fall as she was waiting to be taken to the hospital, meaning that she was likely not the only person who’s gotten seriously injured there. She went on to share that her son wrote a letter to New York City’s complaints board and the spot has since been fixed.
Despite the spot being repaired and Jean being on her way to a full recovery, she said that the attention from being injured hasn’t always felt great.
“When you’re on crutches, people always go, ‘Oh, bummer. What happened? Are you OK?’ But if you’re on a cane?” she teased, before raising her voice to mimic concern. “People go, ‘Are you alright? Is there anything we can do? Would you like to sit?’ Nothing makes you feel older,” Jean said on the episode of the talk show.
