“Norbit came out right after I got that Oscar nomination [for Dreamgirls]. There were articles like, ‘How can he get an Oscar, he did this?’,” Eddie recalled to complex, saying that he “loves” the comedy even if it’s not his most popular movie. “They’re two different movies.”
That year, Eddie ended up losing at the Oscars to Alan Arkin for his role in Little Miss Sunshine.
The actor went on to say that even today, he laughs at some of the jokes in Norbit, a movie in which he played both the main character and his wife.
Of the backlash the movie got, Eddie said, “Here’s the thing with Norbit, it came out and they gave me a Razzie Awards for worst actress, worst actor and worst actor of the decade. And I was like, ‘Come on now, shit ain’t that bad.’”
